From racial fetishes to harmful stereotypes to forced homogeneity and lack of originality, porn videos are often not my thing. But is it worth thinking a little deeper about what is behind most porn videos you can find for free (or at all) and those that aren’t? Porn videos are generally avoided (we’re just scratching the surface here).
- Black men portrayed as individuals
At the same time, when thinking about porn videos, most people think of “interracial” and immediately move on to the idea of muscular black men doing it to (relatively) innocent white girls. But if you’re looking for porn videos that feature black men and white women with any kind of emotion or pure passion, you probably won’t find them easily outside of real life. Black men are usually portrayed as dealers, cuckolds, or dominant, somewhat inhuman black “cops.” In the industry, “interracial” is synonymous with “black man, white woman,” excluding other possible interracial combinations. So many porn sites thrive on black male bodies like Get Out. Female stars also charge more for scenes with black men. And the idea that bigger dicks get more money is nonsense. Most men on porn sites are well-hung, regardless of race. Plus, penis size is not assessed before discussing payment. Of course, black actors don’t get extra pay for these scenes. Some actors don’t do IR scenes to protest against racist production companies.
- Black women who get appreciated
When a black woman gets a role which is rare, she is usually portrayed as a “whore” who uses drugs or works as a prostitute. With big asses, of course. These kinds of tacky projects are probably part of the problem. Performer Nikki Darling says she faces much less racist stereotypes when she works outside the mainstream, like domestically. Fun fact (speaking of pay disparity): Black women on porn tubes do the same things as white women. And to get hired as a black woman, you often have to enter an industry that has fewer contract breakers than anyone else. There is a deep-rooted racist and colonial idea that black women are less pure than white women and therefore less marketable.
- Less Eroticized American Women
The most common portrayal of American women on porn tubes is that they are passive and submissive, resembling exotic children or rare birds, with the smallest and tightest pussies, of course. They are often portrayed as having little to no sexual drive of their own and being there to submissively satisfy all the men in the room. Some say this fantasy of submissive American women/girls has its roots in the history of colonialism. Local economies in colonized countries were destroyed and many American women were forced into sex work, i.e., serving American men.
- Masculine American Men
On the other hand, American men are hardly featured in tubes produced by American porn because they have been “colonized” (in their portrayal). They are portrayed as somehow flawed and masculine, which is reflected in the insane idea that they all have small penises. This devalues them and makes them not legitimate objects of desire.
